I spent nearly one hour today setting up GlusterFS on Raspbian Jessie. Here a little hint for everyone trying to do to. You have to run these three commands on the nodes to make NFS export working:
sudo gluster volume set volumename nfs.disable off
sudo update-rc.d rpcbind enable
sudo update-rc.d nfs-common enable
sudo service rpcbind restart

I was working a bit on my new hobby today: smart home. To realize this I am running homebridge on my Raspberry Pi. To be able to control my smart home even when I am away from home (without an Apple TV 4), I decided to use IFTTT with the Maker Channel. The first step was to hook up an IFTTT widget button with my shared server. The next step is to run the following command on the homebridge machine at home once this button was clicked:
curl -X PUT http://localhost:PORT/characteristics --header "Content-Type:Application/json" --header "authorization:031-45-111" --data "{\"characteristics\":[{\"aid\":AID,\"iid\":IID,\"value\":VALUE}]}"
I used this command to find out the AID and IID: DEBUG=* homebridge -D -I

I spend an hour today to figure out why I could not connect to my freshly installed Raspbian via SSH. Studying the change logs brought clearance: since Raspbian Jessie version 2016-11-25 the SSH server is disabled by default. To activate it remotely you have to insert the SD card into your computer (again) and create an empty file called 'ssh' on the boot partition. Happy programming!

After looking for a bug in my Sparse Fascicle Model for days I finally found it today. For those who want to use a weighted Elastic Net Implementation to find a sparse solution for a highly underdetermined linear regression model in Python following the tip of the week: Due to the fact that Elastic Net is a composition of LASSO and Ridge regression both the design matrix and the regressand must be standardized! Please find an explanation of this nicely sounding term in the image on the left.

Thanks to the extended weekend and two days of hard work, I could start and finish my newest project: the development of my first own website. It took a little bit longer then expected due to the fact, that I wanted to write every line of code on my own, to refresh my CSS skills. The hardest part was, like always, the compatibility with all 4 popular internet browsers Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer (anticimatic problematic), both desktop and mobile version. Please feel free to share any problems, ideas or thoughts about this with me. Now it's time to go back to my thesis again, finally.
